With Frank Lampard set to be announced as Chelsea boss this week, Chelsea youngster Juan Familio-Castillo has made a transfer U-turn.
The 19-year-old winger is out of contract at the end of June and wanted to leave the club this summer but is now prepared to discuss a new deal with the Blues as he expects to get a chance in the first team under Lampard, according to Daily Mail.
Despite winning the FA Youth Cup and featuring in back-to-back UEFA Youth League finals, Familio-Castillo is yet to make a first team appearance.
Lampard is expected to take over as manager at Stamford Bridge later this week, with former Blues Jody Morris joining as his No 2.
Familio-Castillo — who can play at left back or as a winger — previously worked with Morris when he was on the Chelsea books as a youth coach between 2014 and 2018.
Lampard’s arrival with Morris is also having a positive effect on other Chelsea youngsters with Callum Hudson-Odoi now keen to stay at Chelsea after pushing to leave for Bayern Munich in January.
It is believed Lampard’s arrival would help Chelsea tie down Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Reece James and Mason Mount to new deals.
