Former goalkeeper Petr Cech is Chelsea’s new technical and performance adviser.
Cech, who retired at the end of last campaign, has been included in the process of finding a candidate to replace Maurizio Sarri as Chelsea boss.
According to Cech, a new manager will be announced before the players return for preseason later this week and he also admitted Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is one of the candidates being considered for the role.
Cech said according to Daily Mail: “I am one of the articles that the coach has to choose from,’ he told the media in Nymburk, Czech Republic on Sunday.
“I could consult all the candidates with the leadership, they know my ideas.
“The club has identified some of the coaches they are dealing with.
“The situation is open, Frank [Lampard] is one of the candidates. The first team will start the preparation, by that time we would like to solve the coach’s question.”
Derby announced last week that they had given Lampard permission to speak to Chelsea.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele has backed Lampard to bring success to Chelsea.
Asked whether Lampard will be a success at Chelsea, Makelele said, according to Goal: “At the moment, nothing is decided. For me, it’s good the ex-legends come back to the club. I hope so.
“I’m sure he wants to give everything for Chelsea. So, of course, I’m happy for this idea of the club to bring back a legend. He’s ready. He knows what is needed to bring success to the club.
“Frank is someone who is very professional, he focuses on details, focuses about the love he gives for Chelsea. I’m sure he will be a great manager for Chelsea.”
