3. Work on defending set pieces
We conceded so many needless goals from set-pieces last season and this is one area we must work on next season. So many times last season, Chelsea conceded from a set-piece when we were very much in control of the game. We would have been higher up the table if we had defended set-pieces better.
4. Jorginho’s positioning
One problem Chelsea had last season was the shape of the team when we were in attack. Jorginho was always very high up the pitch and this caused problems for Chelsea when we lost the ball in attack.
Jorginho’s high positioning left our central defenders exposed when teams counter-attacked us. We basically had no shield in front of the defence and this was highly exposed by Manchester City.
Playing N’Golo Kante just in front of the defence with Jorginho playing a little deeper could help offer protection to the defence.
5. More runs into the box
Most times when in attack, there’s only one Chelsea player in the box and this makes it easy for the opposition. Our players were too static and the team lacked movement when we were with the ball. More runs into the box are needed if we must improve next season.
When there are more numbers in the box, crosses into the box are more dangerous and it also gives the team more options in attack.
Chelsea can still challenge for titles next season even though Eden Hazard leaves the club for Real Madrid. The Belgian is an excellent player that will be difficult to replace but Chelsea is bigger than any player and will still challenge for titles without the Belgian.
