Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is the manager with the highest transfer expenditure of all time.
According to transfermarkt, Mourinho has spent £1.40billion on a total on 97 players across eight clubs.
In his first spell as Chelsea boss, Mourinho spent £334million on transfers, spending big on signing Didier Drogba from Marseille, Michael Essien from Lyon and Andriy Shevchenko from AC Milan.
In his second spell as Chelsea boss, Mourinho spent £318 million according to transfermarkt. He spent big on Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Willian and Juan Cuadrado.
Mourinho also spent big during his time as Manchester United boss, spending a whopping £419 million on signings. He spent big on Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Fred.
He spent £167 million as Real Madrid and £140 million as Inter Milan boss, according to transfermarkt.
Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is second on the list, spending a total of £1.09 billion as manager with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola third on the list after spending a total of £1.03 billion on transfers. Most of Guardiola’s expense has been at Manchester City, where he has spent over £539 million on signings according to transfermarkt.
To his credit, Mourinho has won 27 titles as a manager. He won the Premier League thrice with Chelsea, the Champions League twice with Porto and Inter Milan, Spanish League once with Real Madrid, FA Cup once with Chelsea, Four League Cup titles (three with Chelsea and once with Manchester United), Spanish Cup winner with Real Madrid, Spanish Super Cup winner with Real Madrid, Serie A champion twice with Inter Milan, Italian Cup winner with Inter Milan, Italian Super Cup winner with Inter Milan, Portuguese champion twice with Porto, Portuguese Cup winner twice with Porto, UEFA Cup winner with Porto, Europa League winner with Manchester United, Portuguese Super Cup winner twice with Porto, and English Community Shield winner with Chelsea and Manchester United.
