According to Daily Mail, Frank Lampard will promote Under-23s coach Joe Edwards to a first-team position when he is announced as Chelsea boss.

Lampard is expected to be announced as Chelsea boss this weekend after Derby County gave the club permission to speak with Lampard on Tuesday,

Edwards has impressed after rising through the ranks at Stamford Bridge, having won back-to-back FA Youth Cups when boss of the U18s and Daily Mail claim Lampard wants his development expertise as he seeks to place the emphasis on player progression after the club’s two-year transfer ban.

Chelsea plan to remove all of Maurizio Sarri’s coaching staff including Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola, who was Sarri’s assistant, and Edwards will be one of the several new appointments.

Jody Morris, who was Lampard’s number two at Derby, will also return to Chelsea as Lampard’s number two.

With Edwards and Morris working in the new coaching staff, Lampard will have a pair that have worked with every every academy graduate from the last 10 years or so.
