Frank Lampard’s appointment as Chelsea’s new manager is great for the Blues according to former Premier League midfielder Joey Barton.
Barton, who is currently manager of Fleetwood Town, believes Lampard can be a huge hit as a manager at Stamford Bridge.
Barton also insists Lampard’s appointment will help maximise the potential of the club’s academy stars, he believes are the best in the country.
“I think it’s great,” Barton told talkSPORT.
“It says a lot for the job Frank did at Derby last season; I watched them myself… they played some good stuff at times.
“Chelsea is his club. Frank won everything he could as a player there, he will have instant respect walking in and it is about whether he can take the opportunity.
“It will be tough because there is the transfer embargo and other things going on, but Chelsea have some of the most exciting young talent in the country.
“Jody Morris is in there with him and knows the Chelsea youth structure really, really well. Joe Edwards, who is the Under-23 manager, is going to move across with them.
“So you have young English coaches who are going to give young English talent opportunities and I think that is a great thing.”
