Gianfranco Zola is set to leave Chelsea this weekend when his contract expires, his agent has confirmed.
The Chelsea legend served as assistant manager under Maurizio Sarri last season but Sarri has since replaced Massimiliano Allegri as Juventus manager and Chelsea are expected to soon appoint Frank Lampard, who will bring his own backroom staff with him from Derby.
According to reports, Chelsea offered Zola an ambassadorial role at the club but the Italian turned down the offer.
Daily Mail reported earlier in the week that incoming Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will decide whether to keep Zola as assistant manager but according to Zola’s agent, the Italian is looking to go back into management.
Zola has already had spells managing West Ham, Watford and Birmingham.
“Gianfranco’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the month,” Zola’s agent and lawyer, Fulvio Marrucco, told The Guardian.
“After a season of hard work and fantastic results alongside Maurizio Sarri, he is ready to take the next step in his own management career.”
According to The Guardian, Zola would be open to remaining in England.
