If Hazard Leaves This Summer, Should He Be Regarded As A Chelsea Legend?

Chelsea star Eden Hazard has now confirmed he will leave Chelsea this summer after helping the club win the Europa League.

Hazard joined Chelsea as a 21-year-old from Lille in 2012, and Hazard’s stock has risen since then. The Belgian is regarded as one of the best players in the world and is highly sought after by Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Wednesday night’s Europa League final is expected to be Hazard’s last game for Chelsea as reports claim Chelsea and Real Madrid are in talks for a transfer move for Hazard.

Pushed on his future after the final whistle, Hazard told BT Sport: “I think it is a goodbye. My dream was to play in the Premier League and I did that for 7 years with the best team in the world.”

“I talk about my decision already. I said that two weeks ago. Now it depends on the club, both clubs,” Hazard added.

“I’m just waiting like you wait, the fans wait, we will know in a couple of days. I think it’s a goodbye, but in football you never know.”

Hazard expanded on his thoughts in a separate interview, saying: “I want a new challenge like I said last year after the World Cup but it didn’t happen.

“So now it’s between both clubs. So I will see. I am still waiting, like you are waiting, and the fans are waiting. So we will see in a couple of days.”

The big question is: will Hazard leave Chelsea as a legend?

Three of Chelsea’s greatest legends in the past decade have been Frank Lampard, John Terry and Didier Drogba. Others that could be mentioned are the likes of Petr Cech, Ashley Cole and Branislav Ivanovic.

Among the names mentioned above, a lot of things contributed to their legendary status at the club; passion, commitment, zeal, love for the club, sacrifice, overall contribution and longevity. These attributes are usually found in a legend, and one can be rest assured that every Chelsea legend displayed this during their time at the club.

Over the past few years, Hazard has been Chelsea’s best player. He has carried the club on so many occasions and has changed games on his own. His contribution has been superb and none can play down what he has achieved at the club.

However, can we say Hazard has other attributes to be labelled as a Chelsea legend? While his achievements have been extraordinary, can we say his desire to leave the club won’t count against his legendary status?

  1. Looking at what qualifies one to be a , Hazard cannot be a Chelsea legend despite his marvelous contributions. To me legends don’t seek to leave their at his age, legends do spent almost their entire career in a club.

  2. Looking that a player to be qualified as a legend hazard has only possessed one out of 5 so to me is no.

As u mention Lampard, Terry and Drogba all leaved the club at the age of 32+ and they only hard 2 more seons to play.
Hazard can play in the next 7 years with this Hazard is not a legend to Chelsea but a respected player
