Chelsea are in talks with Brazilian international Willian over signing a new contract to remain at the club.
Since joining Chelsea in 2013, Willian has been a loyal player at the club, and his dedication to Chelsea cannot be in doubt. Last summer, he was wanted by Barcelona but declined to join the Spanish giants and remained with the Blues.
According to UOL Esporte, the Brazilian has turned down a very enticing offer to play football in China.
Willian has been the subject of a €20m bid from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua, who has offered him a healthy wage packet of around €12m/year for the next three seasons.
Despite the money offered to the Chelsea star, the CSL club are also prepared to add extra benefits, such as ‘renting a flat paid for by the club, as well as two cars with drivers and a fee to be spent on plane tickets’.
Reports claim Willian isn’t interested in the deal and has chosen to remain at Chelsea and help the club through a difficult time.
Willian is contracted at Stamford Bridge until the end of next season, and has just one year left on his Chelsea contract. He’s already in talks about an extension to his current deal.
Chelsea are reluctant to let Willian leave Stamford Bridge this summer as the Blues can’t make any signings until next summer and are hoping to extend the contract of the Brazilian winger, with reports claiming that Chelsea are only offering one-year extension to the Brazilian.
The Sun had reported earlier this month that Willian was close to signing a new deal but Standard Sport claim Chelsea are unwilling to meet Willian’s contract demands. Willian is only keen on signing a two-year deal, but Chelsea have strict rules to extending the contracts of players above 30, with Willian turning 31 in August.
Willian is currently with the Brazilian national team in the Copa America. The Chelsea star made a six minute cameo towards the end of a 3-0 win over Bolivia before being left on the bench altogether four days later in a 0-0 draw with Venezuela.
