N’Golo Kante has been an exceptional player since signing for Chelsea. The France international joined Chelsea after winning the Premier League with Leicester City and has now spent 3 years at Stamford Bridge.

Kante was used in his natural defensive midfield role under former boss Antonio Conte, but played in a more offensive role under Maurizio Sarri. Sarri was criticised for playing Kante higher up the pitch, but he never backed down, and to his credit Kante seemed to have improved in that role.

Kante struggled initially playing on the right side of midfield, particularly during a poor 3-1 defeat to Tottenham at Wembley last November, but grew into the role as the season wore on.

With Sarri now gone to Juventus, the big question is: how will he be used next season?

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is expected to take over from Sarri as Chelsea boss, and the 40-year-old has revealed what he thought about Kante in the past.

Lampard has revealed in the past that there’s more to Kante’s game than just tackling and breaking down play.

“Looking at the way he’s performing this year, he may not be scoring lots of goals but what he’s giving to the team in the way he’s playing, the driving force that he is, I cannot see anyone else out there in world football better than him at the moment,” Lampard said in March 2017.

“I’d go as far to say that he’s the best central midfield player in the world on current form, I really would.

“I’d sort of compared him in my head to Makelele last year, and when he came to Chelsea I thought, ‘he’s their Makelele,’ but he’s got even more to his game.”

It’s believed that Lampard will return Kante back to his more natural defensive position, but will also exploit his attacking instincts that he has gained under Sarri.
