Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is the front runner to take over the Chelsea job. Lampard has only been a manager for a year, but the Blues are ready to hand over the job to him following the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Juventus.
Lampard impressed as Derby County boss as he led the Rams to the play-off final, losing to Aston Villa 2-1. Lampard’s side were exciting and played brilliant football, and Chelsea board are keen on him to take over from Sarri.
Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham is excited about the proposed appointment of Lampard and believes there ‘is no better guy to play under’ than the Chelsea legend amidst rumours that the Derby County boss is set to become the new Blues manager.
Abraham played against Lampard’s side in the Play-off final, and it was his side who gained the victory, and Tammy Abraham is excited about playing under Lampard.
“Yes, if it was him to take over the job, I believe in myself,” Abraham told The Telegraph.
“There is no better guy [than Lampard] to play under. Someone you have grown up watching, been at Chelsea forever.
“He knows about me as well. I played against his team in the play-off final.”
Chelsea legends and past players are also rooting for Lampard to manage the club, and former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba believes Lampard should be the next Chelsea manager.
“I think it is a very good option for the club,” Drogba said, according to Standard Sport. “He has done well with Derby, taking the team to the play-off final.”
“So he is never going to be ready, then? Does he have to wait until he is 50 to be ready?” the Ivorian replied when asked about his inexperience.
“I think it depends on your experience and depends on your desire to succeed and do it.
“If he feels ready I don’t think it is too early.”
