Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is favourite to be appointed as Chelsea boss following Maurizio Sarri’s departure to Juventus.
According to Daily Express, Chelsea will unveil Lampard as the new boss of the club before the end of the week.
The report claims it would take something spectacular for the deal to fall through.
Lampard has reportedly been offered a three-year deal at Chelsea, but the club would have to pay Derby around £4million in compensation.
Lampard accepted the offer to replace Sarri after Roman Abramovich promised to give him two years to prove his worth.
Abramovich is reportedly impressed with Lampard’s performance at Derby especially the faith he placed on youngsters and believes Chelsea youngsters will get a chance under Lampard.
Lampard led Derby County to the Championship Play-Off Final, but they were ultimately beaten to the Premier League prize by Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, Derby owner Mel Morris remains determined to keep hold of Lampard.
“There’s no change in the situation at present, except for the fact that Chelsea no longer have a manager,” Morris told Sky Sports.
“We have made it clear to everyone, but most importantly to Frank, that we want him and to retain his services for the long term.
“If Chelsea want to hire Frank, then it is in their gift to make an offer in pursuit of that.
“In the meantime, we will continue to put our best foot forward to continue with our plans for the coming season, to work with Frank for him to know how much he is wanted by everyone associated with the club.”
