Mateo Kovacic is officially a Chelsea player after completing a permanent transfer to the club from Real Madrid. He spent last season on loan at Chelsea.

1 Mateo Kovacic was born on 6 May 1994 in Linz, Austria.

2. He began his professional career with Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia at the age of 16, with whom he won two consecutive league titles, before joining Inter Milan in 2013.

3. Kovacic spent two seasons at Inter Milan, scoring 5 goals in 80 Serie A appearances before joining Real Madrid in 2015.

4. During his time at Real Madrid, Kovacic scored once in 73 La Liga appearances over three seasons.

5. He joined Chelsea, initially on a temporary deal in summer of 2018, before making his move permanent this summer.

6. Kovacic had a solid season at Chelsea while on a temporary deal at the club, making 51 appearances.

7. He is a versatile midfielder who can play any position across midfield.

8. Kovacic helped Croatia reach the 2018 World Cup final before losing to N’Golo Kante’s France. He has been capped 50 times by Croatia.

9. Kovacic has won a lot of titles in his career. He won the Europa League with Chelsea last season. He has already lifted the Champions League three times as a Real Madrid player, won the La Liga once and the Croatian league three times.

10. Kovacic can speak five languages – Croatian, English, German, Italian and Spanish.
