Chelsea and Liverpool will meet in Istanbul on Wednesday, August 14 to play the Super Cup final. The Super Cup final is usually between the winner of the Champions League and the winner of the Europa League.

While Chelsea defeated Arsenal 4-1 in the Europa League final last season, Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final, in what was an all English final across Europe.

The new season will kick off soon, and Chelsea start the new campaign with a mouth-watering clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford, before then hosting Leicester City. In between the games against Manchester United and Leicester City, the Blues will play Liverpool as the new season will start with some tough fixtures for new Blues boss.

Liverpool star trio Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah may all be unavailable for this clash due to involvement in international football. Salah and Mane are currently with their national teams for the ongoing African Cup of Nations, while Firmino is with the Brazilian team for the Copa America.

The trio have found little time to rest since the end of the season, and also faced a similar situation last summer as they were at last year’s World Cup in Russia for their respective countries, and they have once again found themselves on international duty this summer.

Once both tournaments are over the players will then go off on a break, likely to be around three weeks, ahead of the new Premier League season. This might mean that they may not be available for the Super Cup fixture on August 14th.

Arsenal and Cameroon legend Lauren, has warned Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to rest Salah and Mane ahead of next season so he won’t lose them to injury or fatigue.

“Whatever happens, Liverpool will need to start the season without Salah and Mane, as they will need a good couple of weeks to rest and recuperate,” he told bwin.

“Otherwise their level will drop during the season. Players will be mentally and physically exhausted and will need a few weeks to recuperate before heading into the new Premier League season.

“If they don’t get the rest, there will be a chance that their Premier League campaign will be impacted by a slow start as the players are just too tired to play.

“This could be trouble for Liverpool as both Salah and Mane will likely be involved in the latter stages of the African Cup of Nations.”
