Chelsea players produced a massive display as the Blues defeated Barcelona 2-1 to lift the Rakuten Cup in faraway Japan.
It was a very entertaining game in the Saitama Stadium, and the Chelsea players were at their best to give the Blues the victory. Goals from Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley gave the Blues a two-goal cushion before Ivan Rakitic scored a late goal to seal the win for Barca.
Although it was a good overall team performance, 4 Chelsea players stood out in this game.
1. kepa Arrizabalaga
It was the Spaniard’s first pre-season game of the summer and he was in top form. Kepa was barely tested in the first-half, but was very busy in the second-half and made saves after save to keep Chelsea ahead, but was well beaten by a wonder Rakitic strike late on.
2. Tammy Abraham
The young forward missed a massive chance early in the first-half but made up for it with a calm finish in the 34th minute. Besides his goal, his all round play was nice, he worked hard, help up the ball well and linked up well with his teammates. Nice one Tammy.
3. Mason Mount
He was full of composure and was sleek on the ball. Caused Barca’s defence a lot of troubles with his forward runs and his touches were perfect. Surely didn’t look like a youngster as he was really good on the ball. Worked very hard and proved why Lampard wants him as part of his team.
4. Mateo Kovacic
Many were disappointed with the club for signing Kovacic for a massive fee, but the Croatian is showing in pre-season that he will be a good signing for Chelsea.
Playing in a double pivot alongside Jorginho, he carried the ball smoothly from the back to link up with the forward players and he also worked really hard.
I told you, “Let it be as it is until we see the players’ performance in the first ten games of the season”. Good work Blues.
