In a game where both teams were awful in defence, Chelsea beat Reading 4-3 in our fifth preseason game.
Reading started the game brightly and took the lead after 13 minutes through Josh Barrett.
The goal sparked Chelsea to life as the Blues upped the tempo with Ross Barkley scoring the equaliser through a delightful free-kick. Reading’s lead lasted just 9 minutes.
Kenedy put Chelsea in the lead three minutes before halftime from a long range effort.
Only Willy Caballero remained from the team that started the first as Chelsea boss Frank Lampard made 10 changes.
Just like the first half, Reading started the second half brightly and scored four minutes into the second through Michael Morrison, who was left unmarked in the far post from a Reading corner.
Mason Mount restored Chelsea’s two-goal lead after 57 minutes and made it 4-2 three minutes.
Mateo Kovacic’s error around Chelsea’s box was punished as Reading made it 4-3 through Sam Baldock after 71 minutes.
Next up for Chelsea is a visit to Salzburg on Wednesday.
