With the new Premier League season around the corner, fantasy football lovers have already started picking their fantasy team for the new season.
When choosing a defender for your fantasy football team, clean sheets, goals and assists are very important stats.
Goal has named Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso as the third best fantasy football defender. The Chelsea left-back is valued at £6.5m by the official Fantasy Premier League game.
On Marcos Alonso being the third best fantasy football defender:
“Spain international Marcos Alonso has been one of the best defenders in fantasy football over the past three seasons, despite enduring a difficult end to 2018-19,” according to Goal.
“He was particularly effective as a left wing-back for Antonio Conte, which allowed him to get forward more frequently, and it will be interesting to see how new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard uses him in 2019-20.”
Liverpool fullbacks Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were named as the first and second best fantasy football defenders respectively. Virgil van Dijk is the fourth best while Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte is ranked fifth.
Meanwhile, Alonso has revealed he is confident he will thrive under Frank Lampard’s tactics this season, having been afforded the freedom to attack from the back.
“The first few sessions have been going very well,” Alonso recently told Sky Sports.
“I feel very good playing the way the manager wants with high intensity, trying to keep the ball, moving the ball side to side and giving freedom for the full-backs to attack.
“Of course, knowing that our main target is to defend but I’m very happy with how we’re working and looking forward to the start of the season.”
