Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante was sent back to London from the pre-season tour of Japan after he suffered a recurrence of a knee problem he suffered at the end of last season.
The midfielder is currently in Cobham receiving treatment for the injury.
According to Standard Sport, Chelsea hope dedicated treatment with specialists at the Cobham base will speed up Kante’s recovery and boost his chances of recovering in time for the trip to Old Trafford on August 12.
Kante flew out with Chelsea to Japan and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was confident the France international will feature in one of the games in Japan.
The club made the decision to send Kante back to London after he reported discomfort in the same knee he injured ahead of the Europa League Final in May following a training session last week.
Kante’s injury is a setback for Lampard as he has been working on a 4-2-3-1 formation which will restore Kante to the heart of the team after he was played out of position by former manager Maurizio Sarri last season.
Even though Kante recovers in time for the Premier League opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford, he won’t be expected to feature in that game.
