Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger missed the final weeks of last season with a knee injury that eventually required surgery.
The 26-year-old suffered the knee injury during the Premier League draw against Manchester United in April at Old Trafford.
Rudiger is currently in rehabilitation at Chelsea’s Cobham training base and he is expected to miss the start of the season.
According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are aiming to have Antonio Rudiger available for September’s Premier League clash against Wolves.
The report claims if everything goes according to plan, the Chelsea medical staff expect the central defender to be back after the first international break of the season in September.
If he fails to be fully fit for the game against Wolves, he is expected to be available for the visit of Liverpool to Stamford Bridge the following weekend.
The news of Rudiger’s expected return will come as huge boost to Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, who knows his squad will be pushed to the limit next season due to the club’s transfer ban.
According to Daily Mail, Lampard has already spoken to Rudiger at the club’s training base to stress how important he’ll be next season.
