Chelsea had a goalscoring midfield hero in Frank Lampard as the Blues legend scored 211 goals in over 600 games in all competitions for Chelsea.
Lampard was famed to always get important goals and was a consistent scorer as he consistently scored every bit of his Chelsea career; as he netted at least 10 times in 10 successive league campaigns from 2003-04 to 2012-13, his penultimate season at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard scored all manner of goals for Chelsea — among them a Premier League record 41 from outside the box and 43 from the penalty spot (a tally only bettered by Shearer). He also got them against a wide range of opponents; 39 different teams in fact, the most in competition history.
Since the departure of Lampard in 2014, Chelsea haven’t had a goalscoring influence in midfield, and Chelsea fans now believe that youngster Mason Mount is the right man to replace Lampard.
Mount continued his impressive pre-season form with a beautiful brace against Reading, and Chelsea fans were quick to sing his praise on social media.
One Chelsea fan commented: “Always good to have a goalscoring midfielder – something we lacked last season.”
Another commented: “Mount is the next Lampard.”
While a third simply said: “Shades of Lamps.”
