Chelsea were beaten by Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale in a pre-season friendly in Yokohama.

The Blues battled hard in the Yokohama heat against Kawasaki Frontale and created a number of decent chances but couldn’t find a way past the Kawasaki keeper Jung Sung Ryong. At the end, substitute Leandro Damiao scored a late goal to give the Japanese champions a massive victory.

Lampard started with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Pedro, Mason Mount and Kenedy supporting Michy Batshuayi in attack, while Kurt Zouma and David Luiz were the centre-back pairing. Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho sat at the base of midfield. Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso started in the fullback position.

Jorginho played the first 56 minutes of the friendly against the J League side before being replaced by Danny Drinkwater in the second-half.

Chelsea fans weren’t particularly impressed with Jorginho last season as he was a key player under Maurizio Sarri, but the Blues fans were much impressed with Jorginho’s performance against the J League side.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has also revealed that he’s happy with Jorginho, and the Italy international will likely play a key part of his team next season.

“Jorginho is a fantastic player,” the Chelsea boss said.

“The one thing that has struck me about him from working with him in the last week and a bit is not just his quality on the ball, I saw that last year.

“We know all about his comfort on the ball and bravery to receive the ball in any area. It is not something that’s normal to receive the ball in tight areas and deal with the ball and keep doing it constantly.

“But his attitude in training has been first class. He’s a driver of a session.”
