Fans’ favourite Ruben Loftus-Cheek extended his Chelsea contract until the summer of 2024, with his new contract worth £150,000 a week. His previous deal was due to expire in 2021.
Following the announcement of Loftus-Cheek’s new deal, Chelsea fans are now demanding Loftus-Cheek to be handed the No. 8 shirt for the new season, rather than his current No. 12.
Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley currently wears the No.8 shirt but fans want it taken away from the former Everton man and given to Loftus-Cheek.
The second request made to the club was one for another contract extension, this time for Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Hudson-Odoi’s contract is due to expire in the summer of 2020 and he is wanted by German club Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Loftus-Cheek revealed he was pleased to sign his new contract.
“I’m really happy and pleased that I get to stay here for another five years. It’s the place where I’ve grown up playing and hopefully I’ll be playing here for a lot longer,” Loftus-Cheek told Chelsea’s official website after signing new contract.
“When I look back and see how the hard work has paid off, it’s a good feeling. That only makes me want to work harder to achieve more in the future.
“I hope to win a lot more trophies with the team and personally it’s just about trying to do as well as I can and work hard to be a key player for Chelsea.”
