Against Kawasaki Frontale on Friday, Chelsea fans got a first glimpse of Christian Pulisic in a Chelsea shirt having completed his deal with the Blues back in January.
The 20 year old missed the Irish pre-season training camp as he helped the USA to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. He had to cut short his vacation to join the Blues in Japan.
Pulisic started the game against Kawasaki Frontale on the bench and was brought in with 25 minutes left.
The 20 year old was deployed on the left of Chelsea’s 4-2-3-1 and troubled the opposition with his direct running.
One aspect of his game that would have caught the eyes of Chelsea fans was his workrate against Kawasaki Frontale.
Pulisic’s workrate was impressive during the 25 minutes he was on the pitch and Chelsea fans will be hoping to see more of that in future.
Speaking on Pulisic’s performance against Kawasaki Frontale, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard told Chelsea TV: “Good, good, he has been here a couple of days really in terms of training, so have been really impressed.
“He’s comfortable on the ball and I think he should have had a penalty towards the end of the game.
“He wants to try to take people on, the sort of player the fans are going to like so we have to give him a little bit of time to adapt slightly.
“But the way he has trained, the way he has come in with his personality looks great so I am really pleased to have him.”
