Chelsea legend Ashley Cole joined the Blues in Japan on Wednesday.
The former Chelsea left-back, who won eight trophies during his time at Chelsea, is in Japan for ambassadorial and commercial activities around the club’s games against Kawasaki Frontale on Friday in Yokohama, and against Barcelona on Tuesday in Saitama.
Cole, who Frank Lampard recruited as a player at Derby last season, is still taking his UEFA badges as he embarks upon a potential career in coaching and he would like to return to Stamford Bridge in some role in the future.
Reports have previously suggested that Lampard was looking to add Cole to his backroom staff, something that could now become a reality.
Our pre-season preparations started with a 1-1 draw against Bohemians followed by a 4-0 win against St Patrick’s.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted he is happy with the squad at his disposal as he gets them set for the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.
“My job is to have absolute belief in the players and that’s what training has started to give me,” Lampard said. “I can see quality and attitude through the squad.
I have inherited very good players. We can’t bring players in, we know that, but I am very happy with the squad and determined for us to be successful.
“When you know where you’re at it absolutely homes in what is important: the club together, players, staff and fans, giving everything to improve daily, to improve game by game. It helps my focus.
“With the squad we have we can be really competitive this year. My job now is to work hard with them in pre-season. I like my team to play with a lot of energy and speed, with and without the ball. If we lose the ball I want to win it back as quickly as I can.
“When we have the ball I want to move the ball quickly and create chances to win games and to play football we enjoy. That’s my job now.”
