Mateo Kovacic is set to remain at Stamford Bridge after a one-year loan spell with the club last season.
Kovacic joined Chelsea from Real Madrid last season and was a vital part of Maurizio Sarri’s side as the Blues won the Europa League and finished third in the league.
Although the deal between Real Madrid and Chelsea seem to be set, it has not yet been confirmed, and Chelsea made a huge blunder by accidentally announcing the signing of Kovacic from Real Madrid on the club’s mobile app before the deal has officially been completed.
Despite the transfer ban, Chelsea are permitted to sign the Croatian as he was registered with the club last season. Both clubs are believed to have agreed a fee of £45m for Kovacic, but the Blues mistakenly announced the deal by posting an interview with him on the club’s ‘The 5th Stand’ app.
The first line of the published interview with Kovacic entitled ‘My Footballing firsts’ reads: “After securing a permanent switch to Stamford Bridge following a successful loan spell at Chelsea from Real Madrid, we caught up with Mateo Kovacic…”
Kovacic was quoted as saying: “It was an amazing feeling to sign for Chelsea, first on loan and now permanently.
“It is a fantastic club, with great team-mates and we play a good style of football.”
Kovacic’s deal is expected to be announced soon as all seem to have been completed for his transfer.
