Chelsea have tied down three academy youngsters to new deals as Juan Castillo, George McEachran and Tariq Uwakwe have all signed new three-year contracts at the club ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
The three youngsters spent last season with the Chelsea development squad, and George McEachran and Tariq Uwakwe have been at the club since a tender age. Castillo joined from Ajax in the summer of 2016 and has spent the past three years playing for our Academy teams.
19-year-old Uwakwe will enter his 12th season at the club after agreeing a new deal. He suffered injuries in the past season which restricted his involvement throughout last season, though he still played a key role in our UEFA Youth League and Premier League 2 campaigns.
Uwakwe is highly regarded among the coaching staff at Cobham, and Chelsea rejected an approach from West Brom in January for Uwakwe due to the Baggies wanting a temporary move with a view to a permanent switch.
McEachran has been training with Chelsea from the start of his Under-8 year and is a highly rated midfielder. He’ll turn 18 in August.
With Frank Lampard expected to be announced as the next Chelsea manager, the club are trying to keep hold of the best youngsters as Lampard is expected to field youngsters.
