Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu is currently in Germany to complete a loan move to RB Leipzig.
Ampadu is set to sign up for RB Leipzig on loan after undergoing a medical at the German club.
Ampadu was left out of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Japan so he could work out his loan move away from the club.
Aston Villa, Cardiff City and Swansea City have all been linked with the Chelsea teenager, but it appears that German club Leipzig have won the race for his signing and he is likely to head to Leipzig on a season-long loan.
The 18-year-old has made just one Premier League appearance for the Blues and 12 for Chelsea in all competitions, prompting Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to send him out on loan.
Ampadu was spotted in Leipzig according to photo evidence from RB Leipzig fans’ Twitter handle @rb_fans.
Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann is looking to bolster his squad after qualifying for Europe’s top competition and Ampadu will give him options at centre-back and defensive-midfield.
Explaining his decision to let Ampadu leave on loan, Lampard said: “I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea.”
“The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him and we haven’t brought him here while that is up in the air.”
