Jamie Cumming is the third Chelsea academy product to sign a contract in recent months, with the likes of Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek having signed new deals with the club.

Chelsea are also keen to give buzzing youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi a new contract with massive pay in a bid to keep him at the club.

Also, players from the academy are excited with what’s going on at the club, as there now seems to be hope for players to graduate from the academy and get their chances in the senior team.

The appointment of Frank Lampard has raised up hope among the Chelsea youngsters. Lampard has brought back youngsters Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount from loan, and the Chelsea legend is very much interested in the academy.

Cumming has revealed that there’s an air of hope and expectancy among the Chelsea youngsters.

“It’s a great time for young players at Chelsea,” he told the official Chelsea website after signing a new deal.

“We have a manager who is willing to put his trust in young players if they deliver and it’s been brilliant for me personally to get some minutes in pre-season.

“The Reading game was a great experience because it was probably the most people I’ve ever played in front of and for the manager to put his trust in me was a massive positive. Playing in front of the Chelsea fans for the first time was brilliant.

“We started well in pre-season and there have been lots of positives from each game but lots of things to work on as well and that’s what pre-season is for.”

Lampard has a team of staff who are Chelsea through and through, and Cumming has revealed that he feels at home working with them.

“It’s great to have Joe Edwards, Jody Morris and all the other staff I’ve worked with over the years around the team,” Cumming added.

“They know me very well and I know them well so it’s easy to go and talk to them. It’s a friendly environment and everyone is enjoying themselves so it’s really good to be part of that right now.

“There’s also Petr Cech back at the club and he’s great to have around, a Chelsea legend and another person I can sponge from and gain as much knowledge as I can. He was the best goalkeeper in Europe for a few seasons in my opinion and he’s a brilliant role model to have at the club.”
