Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu has joined Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on a season-long loan deal.
Several English sides wanted the 18 year old Wales international but Ampadu opted to join RB Leipzig instead.
Ampadu, who has eight senior caps, underwent a medical in Germany on Friday before completing his loan move on Monday.
Ampadu has now revealed why he declined other offers and opted to instead join RB Leipzig on loan. According to Ampadu, he joined RB Leipzig because he has seen how well young players have developed at the club.
“I’m delighted to be at RB Leipzig and can’t wait to start the season with my new team,” Ampadu told Leipzig’s official website.
“I want to get to know the lads and integrate into the team as quickly as possible.
“I have followed the club in recent years and have seen how well young players have developed here and how much potential this club has, so it’s the perfect step for me.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted last week that he is keen for Ampadu to get more playing time on loan this season.
“Ethan is not here as we’re looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season,” Lampard said on Tuesday after arriving in Japan.
“I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea.
“The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him and we haven’t brought him here while that is up in the air.”
