Former England boss Sam Allardyce has revealed he is surprised that former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is still without a club.
The 33-year-old is currently a free agent after he was released by Chelsea at the end of last season, bringing an end to seven years in west London with the Blues.
Cahill has been linked with several Premier League clubs so far this summer, including Arsenal, Aston Villa and Burnley, while Championship side Leeds United have also been suggested as potential suitors.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Allardyce said: “I can’t believe he hasn’t been picked up.
“I would sign him tomorrow. Any Premier League football club should get him. He is as fit as a fiddle.”
According to Allardyce, one of the newly promoted clubs will benefit from signing Cahill as his experience will be crucial if they want to stay up.
“He would be great for Aston Villa, with his experience, to help them stay in the Premier League for a couple of seasons.”
Burnley are currently the 4/7 favourites to sign the experienced defender, with Arsenal 3/1 to sign Cahill and Leeds priced at 8/1, with Villa currently fourth in the betting market at 10/1.
