Chelsea legend Frank Lampard was confirmed as Chelsea boss on Thursday, having signed a three year deal with the club.
Some have doubts about Chelsea’s decision to hand one of the biggest jobs in English football to a manager of such little experience.
Former Premier League manager Ian Holloway believes Lampard is the right man to finally bring some longevity to Stamford Bridge after years of chopping and changing in the dugout.
“It just feels so right,” Holloway told talkSPORT.
“I want some longevity at Chelsea. They’ve been building this youth set up for years, building the best academy for a long, long time and I want to see it flourish.
“That’s why I’m excited, I believe Frank and Jody [Morris] will play these young fellas and Chelsea could grow in a much better way, rather than just… instant coffee.
“Sometimes you’ve got to grow it. You see a lovely orangery and you put a little seed in there and, before you know it, it turns into something beautiful.
“I want to see Chelsea do that.
“QPR fans will kill me, but I’m saying with Frank, the professionalism all his life and the way he is… I’m still moved about the time he scored when he lost his mum and he’s looking at the sky.
“What I’m trying to say is that he’s a proper person. He’s not just about who he is, he is a real, real human being.
“I’m delighted for him.
“I don’t care about their first few games, hopefully they go alright, but I don’t care about that. I think they’ve put the proper fella in charge.
“Frank is the right appointment and Mr Abramovich might not have to do what he’s felt he’s had to do before, because Frank will not be selfish as other managers have been at Chelsea.”
