Chelsea boss Frank Lampard promised to give youth a chance and the legend is doing just that already.
17 year old wonderkid Ian Maatsen joined Lampard’s squad to Dublin to take on Bohemians FC and St Patrick’s Atheltic this week.
Who is this 17 year old kid that have joined our squad for preseason?
Maatsen joined the Chelsea academy from PSV last summer, having come through their academy, as well as Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam.
Maatsen is a versatile player who can play at centre-back, left-back and in midfield. He is also left footed.
Maatsen featured for Chelsea’s U23s Development Squad last season, playing in the Checkatrade Trophy.
He was an important player for the Chelsea youth team that reached the finals of the UEFA Youth League last season.
The 17 year old was also a key part of the Netherlands U17s squad that won the European Championships for the second year in a row this year, scoring in the final.
Hopefully he will get his chance at Chelsea in the nearest future and become an important player for the Blues.
Don’t forget the name – Ian Maatsen.
