Chelsea will start the new season with a big game against Manchester United on August 11th. Chelsea’s first game of the new season is an away trip to Old Trafford.
Chelsea have played five pre-season games so far, and the Blues have visited Ireland and Japan for pre-season games this summer. So far, it’s been three wins, a draw and a defeat in Frank Lampard’s five games in charge of the Blues.
The new Chelsea boss who has been in charge of the club for three weeks has revealed he’s happy with his players. Lampard has hailed the players for the work put in pre-season and believes that they’ve given their all in pre-season.
Lampard told reporters after the game: “The players have done everything that we as staff have asked of them.
“We’ve had two good trips – one to Dublin which was purely work and the boys worked brilliantly, and then Japan to see the fans over there and play two very tough games so that was also great for us.
“The clock is ticking and we only have two weeks left to be ready for Manchester United but I’m pleased.”
Lampard has given playing opportunity to every player in pre-season and he admitted after the win over Reading that tough decisions will be made in terms of selection for the game against Manchester United and what the squad will look like for the new season.
Lampard said: “I wouldn’t say I’ve made decisions yet in terms of selection for those early games or what the squad looks like because that’s a line and I don’t want to draw that line just yet.
“There’s not a player who hasn’t pushed themselves and shown me everything but these are decisions I have to make.
“They’re not absolutely clear decisions but I’ll make them in due course.”
