Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to sign a five year deal with Chelsea in what would be a huge boost for Frank Lampard’s new reign at the club.
According to Daily Mail, the 18 year old is in advanced talks with Chelsea and was convinced his future is at Chelsea after Lampard’s appointment as Chelsea boss.
Hudson-Odoi was wanted by Bayern Munich, who bid £35m for him in January and £22m last month. Bayern Munich were considering submitting a bid of £45m for the 18 year old this week but gave up on signing the youngster after it became known he will renew his Chelsea contract.
Hudson-Odoi’s new contract will see the youngster earn £100,000 a week and according to Daily Mail, the deal is likely to rise to £10m a year if he keeps making progress.
Chelsea have been keen on extending his contract since last summer but the 18 year old stalled on signing a new deal due to concerns over playing time under former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri’s unwillingness to use Hudson-Odoi meant the players’ representatives were unhappy with his development and game time. England boss Gareth Southgate saw the quality of the youngster and didn’t hesitate to give him his England debut even though Sarri was yet to start him in the Premier League.
Sarri only started playing Hudson-Odoi after Bayern Munich made a move to sign the 18 year old in January.
With Lampard returning, along with his former Under 18 Chelsea manager, Jody Morris, Hudson-Odoi’s concerns about the amount of game time he would have at Stamford Bridge has been allayed and he seems set to be central to Chelsea starting eleven this season.
Hudson-Odoi is currently recovering from an ankle injury he suffered last season.
