New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has urged the Chelsea players to impress him.
The Chelsea legend was appointed as new Blues boss over a week ago, and the 41-year-old has already started work with the team.
Chelsea might not have the opportunity to sign new players during the summer transfer window, but Lampard still has a quality squad to choose from.
Lampard has told his players to impress him, and insisted that it is the bottom line for making his team.
“Everyone needs to impress, that’s the bottom line,” Lampard explained. “But definitely the opportunity is there for everyone to become a part of this side.
“A lot has been made of the younger players that we have here and whether they can force their way into the side. They need to know that if they do well and impress me and my staff, then the opportunity is there for them to be in this side.
“We have some very good young players here and they have to impress in every game and every training session.”
Lampard is giving everyone the opportunity to impress him in pre-season. The Chelsea senior players and youngsters have gotten their chances. Youngsters like Tammy Abraham, Billy Gilmour and Fikayo Tomori.
Chelsea’s first pre-season game ended in a 1-1 draw against Bohemians, and on Saturday, the Blues defeated St Patrick’s 4-0.
Youngsters like Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Billy Gilmour, Ethan Ampadu and Fikayo Tomori have all impressed for the Blues during pre-season and some of them are expected to stay at the club this season.
Meanwhile, the Blues will travel to Japan on Monday afternoon for a pre-season tour which will see the Blues play against Kawasaki Frontale (next Friday, July 19) and Barcelona the Tuesday after (July 23).
