Chelsea new boss Frank Lampard might not have gotten off to a new start as the Blues were held to a 1-1 draw with Bohemians at Dalymount Park, Dublin.

Although Chelsea were the by far the better of the two sides, Lampard’s charges couldn’t score more than one goal, with Michy Batshuayi scoring the opener in the 8th minute.

Billy Gilmour and Tiemoue Bakayoko had good chances to extend Chelsea’s lead but couldn’t get the ball into the net, and Eric Molloy punished Chelsea’s profligacy by scoring an 89th minute goal to end the game in a draw.

Speaking after the game, Lampard chose to hail the youngsters for a good performance. The Chelsea boss played a good number of youngsters, and the likes of Billy Gilmour and Connor Gallagher impressed.

Lampard said: “I thought some of the performances, particularly from the young lads were really good.

“I’ve been really happy [with their application]. I’ve got a way that I work, that we work as staff and we’ve brought that in, it’s hard and taxing on the players.

“We wanted to get straight into them and we have to get that level of fitness into our game and I’m pleased with how they’ve taken that on.”

Chelsea’s next game is in three days time against St Patrick’s.
