Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has been in Dublin since the start of the week but the France international did not feature against either Bohemians or St Patrick’s as he’s still recovering from an injury he suffered before the Europa League final.
Kante was able to play the full 90 minutes against Arsenal in the Europa League final but he is yet to fully recover from the injury.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard provided an update on Kante’s injury.
“He’s been training on his own with the physios this week because he’s still feeling the effects of his injury from the end of last season and we just want to be careful with him,” Lampard explained.
“It’s not a big problem. We know he’s a fit boy and he has a great attitude so the last thing we want to do is push him too early. Hopefully next week in Japan we’ll start to integrate him into the group.”
Meanwhile, Lampard has been impressed with the performances of Billy Gilmour in the season so far and he has hinted the 18-year-old could be part of the first team squad this season.
“Billy Gilmour [was impressive] in the second half. He has had a brilliant trip and has shown real personality in this trip. I just hope Billy keeps pushing on with that this season,” Lampard said.
“A lot has been made of the younger players we have here and they need to know the door is open if they impress.”
