Kurt Zouma played alongside David Luiz in central defence for the first half of a pre-season defeat against J-League champions Kawasaki Frontale on Friday.
The 24 year old France international has spent the last two seasons on loan away from Chelsea, first at Stoke City and last season at Everton.
Zouma impressed on loan at Everton last season and Everton boss Marco Silva is keen on signing the French defender.
Speaking after Chelsea’s pre-season loss to Kawasaki Frontale, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard warned Everton that Zouma isn’t for sale.
Lampard insists the 24 year old defender is part of his first-team plans.
“He’s a Chelsea player and I want him,” said the new Chelsea manager.
“Kurt Zouma is a very good defender for us, a very good player, a very good person, a professional and I want him here, simple as that.”
Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz were the preferred central defence partnership last season under Maurizio Sarri. Zouma might not want to face the prospect of being on the bench when Rudiger returns from a knee injury.
Chelsea boss Lampard promised to take Zouma’s happiness into consideration.
Lampard added: “We are competitive with the centre backs we have in the team and he had a very good season at Everton. I understand why they want him.
“I want him to be happy. He’s working really hard and if he competes for a position and plays well this season he plays.”
