Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by an 86th-minute Leandro Damiao header in our pre-season friendly against Kawasaki Frontale on Friday.
Kawasaki Frontale were expected to give the Blues a stern test, having won the last two J-League championships and currently sit in third place this season.
The defeat to Kawasaki Frontale was Chelsea’s first loss in pre-season under Frank Lampard after the Blues drew 1-1 against Bohemians and defeated St Patrick’s 4-0.
Speaking after the defeat to Kawasaki Frontale, Lampard revealed the biggest thing he has discovered about the players following the defeat to Kawasaki Frontale is their attitude to work.
Asked if he has discovered anything new about the players after the defeat to Kawasaki Frontale, Lampard said: “I think whether I discovered anything new today I’m not sure.
“I’m discovering new things everyday in training and in the game today with individuals. The biggest thing I discovered was a real appetite and attitude to work in the humidity with jet lag for a lot of the players.
“I think it’s normal in pre-season that some of the finer details, and probably us on the ball, the quality of our play on the ball wasn’t quite what we want but we will get there.”
