Chelsea legend Frank Lampard worked under former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho during his two stints as Chelsea manager.
Lampard won two Premier Leagues, two League Cups and an FA Cup in his time working with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.
Lampard has revealed that he is ever ready to defend Mourinho and credits the Portuguese for the successful playing career he had as a Chelsea player.
“I get defensive about him because I think his record speaks for itself,” said the new Chelsea manager.
“In the current era, with the media and social media, everything is blown up out of all proportion.
“But when you strip away all the talk, you see Jose is a manager who has won everything and who has been incredibly successful.
“So I get defensive because I worked under him and have a good relationship with him.
“It’s very easy to make judgements from the outside and maybe Manchester United didn’t end the way he would have wanted it to.
“But he’s going to come back and I’m sure he’ll be successful again.”
Lampard led Derby County to an upset last season as his side defeated Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United squad in the third round of the League Cup.
Mourinho is currently out of work having been sacked by Manchester United December last year.
