Chelsea’s preseason preparations continued with a 4-3 win over Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday and it was our second win in a row, following the 2-1 win over Barcelona in Japan.
Ross Barkley, who scored in our last game against Barcelona, scored a brilliant free-kick against Reading. Kenedy scored our second with Mason Mount getting a brace.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted he has been pleased with the team’s preseason performances so far but admits there are areas in which the team must improve before the start of the season.
According to the boss, the team must improve on defending against set-pieces, try to be tight at the back and also be more clinical in front of goal.
Lampard told Chelsea TV: “Typically with preseason, there are things that are good and things we can improve. I was pleased with the good stuff. I suppose it’s not bad to throw up things in pre-season, things to address in training and the two very tough games coming up this week. [Red Bulls on Wednesday and Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday]
“It was good opposition for us, to get more minutes in the legs for the players, who have been working hard. I’ve been very happy with pre-season and their work as a whole.
“Now the clock starts to tick [on the season], so it’s very important we address things that I didn’t like today: conceding from a set-piece, conceding sloppy goals when we turn over the ball, that we need to tighten up on for sure.
“Lots of signs that we can play, that we can create, but now we have to be more clinical around the box because that’s what’s going to win us games.”
