Chelsea sealed a 4-0 win against St Patrick’s in Dublin on Saturday. It was Frank Lampard’s second pre-season game in Chelsea, and the Blues were on fire all through the game.
Olivier Giroud scored a brace, while there were also goals from Mason Mount and Emerson Palmieri as the Irish side couldn’t cope with the attacking threat of Chelsea.
Lampard surprisingly lined Chelsea up in a 4-4-2 formation, with Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi playing upfront. The duo had a good game and combined well together and but both failed to get on the score sheet.
Lampard admitted after the game that he was impressed with their performance although he was disappointed that they didn’t score as many goals.
“The negative is that we should’ve scored more goals,” Lampard told Chelsea TV after the match.
“I thought some of our build-up play and combinations from midfield and around their box was fantastic, really enjoyable to watch, so there are positives.
“These games are important to win for the feeling but important for the lads to get every little bit out of it in terms of physically and how hard they work.
“We saw better passages of play and better quality but our fitness is still something we need to strive for.
“I thought Tammy, his energy up front, alongside Michy, was really good between the pair of them.
“They showed exactly the sort of stuff I want, energy off the ball as well as on the ball, and quality.”
