January signing Christian Pulisic was in action for the first time for Chelsea today in the 1-0 defeat to Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale.
Pulisic signed for Chelsea from German side Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window for a transfer fee of £58m, but he remained with Dortmund until the end of the season.
Pulisic cut short his holiday to join the Chelsea side on pre-season earlier this week and was introduced as a 65th minute substitute for Tiemoue Bakayoko against the J League side and immediately caught the eye with his dribbling ability and willingness to take opponents on.
Blues boss Frank Lampard deployed the young forward in the three positions behind the striker, and he featured on both the right and left side during his short time on the pitch.
Speaking after the game, Lampard revealed he was impressed with Pulisic’s cameo appearance.
“Good, good,” Lampard told Chelsea TV when asked to assess Pulisic’s cameo.
“He’s only been here couple of days in terms of training with the rest of the squad.
“He impressed, he’s confident on the ball and I thought he could have had a penalty in the second half.
“He wants to take players on and he is a player the fans are going to like.
“He will adapt slowly but they way he has trained the last few days with his personality I am really pleased.”
Chelsea’s next pre-season game is against Barcelona on Tuesday, and Pulisic will be expecting to start the game or at least player more minutes.
