Frank Lampard has been appointed as the new manager of Chelsea FC, and the legend has started work already as he has wasted no time to set up his backroom staff.
There has been a massive alteration of the backroom staff at Stamford Bridge, with Lampard bringing a host of former Blues back with him to west London.
Lampard had confirmed Jody Morris and Chris Jones are joining from Derby County. Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris was in charge of the academy before joining Lampard at Derby. Jones also returns to Stamford Bridge.
Lampard also confirmed former Chelsea midfielder Eddie Newton will be part of his coaching staff while Joe Edwards, who currently works with the academy, will earn a promotion to the first-team.
It isn’t just Jody Morris, Chris Jones, Eddie Newton and Joe Edwards who are the former Blue that’s been linked with the club, Didier Drogba and Claude Makelele are back on board as well.
Lampard has revealed the essence of why he’s forming a Chelsea core as his backroom staff.
“Didier, Petr and Makelele,” Lampard said at a press conference. “What I want to do is bring in people not just because they played for the club but because they feel the club and want to be here with incredible work ethic.
“Jody Morris is coming with me as assistant head coach. We have a close relationship. He has a great link with the academy, who were successful. We have a huge loyalty. Chris Jones as well, he will be with me as a coach. We know each other very well.”
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who won three Premier League titles and one Champions League alongside Lampard at Chelsea, is delighted to see Lampard back at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea boss.
Writing on Instagram, Drogba said: “Good luck, proud to see you coming back home Frank Lampard.”
