Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater failed to make a competitive appearance for Chelsea last season under Maurizio Sarri. His only appearance for the Blues last season was in the Community Shield game at the start of last season.
Drinkwater has now been offered a lifeline by new Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, who has insisted that every player will be given an opportunity to show what they can do. The midfielder had been previously expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after failing to get game time last season.
Drinkwater was in the Chelsea squad that flew to Dublin today for a preseason training camp.
Lampard said: “Everybody will have the opportunity to show what they can do.
“I will be looking at their attitude, the way they play and train, in pre-season and onwards.
“I would be a fool to come here with ideas that I’m going to freeze anybody out, I want to get the best out of the squad.
“Everybody has an opportunity. I have no pre-conceived ideas about anybody. I already have a good knowledge of the squad, but I need to see them over the next month.”
Michy Batshuayi, on loan at Crystal Palace last season, and midfielders Kenedy and Lucas Piazon also travelled with the squad to Dublin.
