Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has reportedly signed a three year deal to become the next Chelsea boss after Maurizio Sarri left the Blues for Juventus weeks after guiding the club to Europa League success and a third place finish in the Premier League.
Lampard will earn around £4 million yearly as Chelsea boss and will receive an additional £1 million if he achieves Champions League qualification.
According to John Percy of Daily Telegraph, Lampard will be announced as Chelsea boss tonight or tomorrow. He also confirmed our earlier report that Derby are close to appointing former Barcelona star Phillip Cocu as Lampard’s replacement.
“Derby County are moving closer towards appointing Phillip Cocu as their new head coach,” tweeted Percy. “Understand Cocu’s proposed No 2, Twan Scheepers, has been given a tour of Derby’s training ground. Lampard to Chelsea should be confirmed tonight/tomorrow.”
Derby owner Mel Morris told talkSPORT on Monday it is ‘only a matter of time’ before Lampard is named as Maurizio Sarri’s successor at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard scored a club record 211 goals and won 11 major trophies as a Chelsea player between 2001 and 2014.
Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris is also joining Lampard from Derby as his no.2 man.
