Chelsea youngster Mason Mount has so far impressed in pre-season, and the 20-year-old was in awesome form yet again against Barcelona.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan to Derby working under Lampard, and he was one of Lampard’s key men at the club.

Speaking after the victory against Barca where Mount was one of the best performers, Lampard admitted that the youngster has announced himself.

Lampard said: “Mason’s had a great trip and he’s announced himself into the first team squad.”

Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has also hailed Mount as well as Tammy Abraham and insists the next step for them is to perform well in the first team at Chelsea.

Azpilicueta said, according to Chelsea’s official website: “They are two very talented players who had a great path in our Academy. They had great spells on loan last season. The next step is to perform well in the first team at Chelsea.

“They are Chelsea boys, they dream of having the opportunity in the first team, and hopefully they can keep working the way they have been doing since they came for the first training session.”

Mount believes Lampard will give him his chances at Chelsea, and also revealed that he has learnt from the legend how to make timely runs into the box.

“It doesn’t matter how old you are,” Mount told Sky Sports. “If you are ready and he thinks you are good enough then he’s going to put you in there.

“Being a midfielder and being at Chelsea you obviously look at him as a role model.

“For me working with him last year, and also this year, I have learnt so much off him.

“Speaking with him day in, day out I’ve been getting little stuff off his game, like him talking to me and telling me how to get into the box.

“I’m learning off him every day and it’s very exciting.”
