Chelsea’s first game of the new season is away at Old Trafford as Manchester United host the Blues on Sunday August 11.
The Blues just finished a pre-season tour of Japan, and it ended well for Lampard’s side as Chelsea defeated Barcelona 2-1 in Saitama Japan.
Chelsea were excellent against the Spanish side, and Blues boss Frank Lampard has revealed that the pre-season games are a good test for the team ahead of the trip to Manchester United.
The Chelsea boss said: “We’ve had two difficult games in humidity. The tour has served its purpose.
“We need to be fit and ready for Manchester United, and the clock runs down pretty quickly at this stage.
“Now we just have to keep working. It’s been a good tour and it’s always good to come to Japan.
“Most importantly it is work and both games have been good exercises for us. ‘What I’ve learnt about the players is that they are a good group. I’m very happy.
“In terms of the workload, the players have to get used to it now. I’ve set the standard of how I want them to work.”
Chelsea star Pedro believes the win over Barcelona on Tuesday will give Chelsea confidence as we prepare for the season opener against Manchester United.
“It’s a good win that gives us confidence,” Pedro said, according to Chelsea’s official website. “The first game is a massive one, a difficult one against United, but now it’s time to prepare with these pre-season games.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to show our potential and keep working with vision and with high intensity.”
