Chelsea team news: N’Golo Kante is unlikely to feature against Reading even though he has returned to training after leaving the tour of Japan early due to an ongoing knee problem. Chelsea will also be without Antonio Rudiger, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who are all injured but Rudiger and Hudson-Odoi are nearing a return.

Chelsea midfielders Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater could still feature even though Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reportedly told them they can leave the club.

Predicted starting XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Luiz, Christensen, Emerson; Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount; Pedro, Pulisic, Giroud.

Head to head: Chelsea have faced Reading 20 times with the Blues winning ten games, drawing seven and losing three games. The last time Chelsea faced Reading in 2013, it ended 2-2.
