Chelsea defender Matt Miazga will return to Championship club Reading for the 2019/20 season after completing a loan move to the Royals on Wednesday.
The American international spent the second half of last season at Reading after returning from a spell at French Ligue 1 side Nantes.
Miazga made 18 appearances for Reading in the Championship last season, helping the Royals finish one place above the drop zone.
Miazga was linked with a loan move to Turkish side Goztepe and Italian side Fiorentina were also reportedly interested in the American international.
Fiorentina were willing to pay €8m to sign Miazga on a permanent deal but Chelsea reportedly value the 24 year old defender at €20m.
Miazga joined Chelsea in January 2016 and made his debut in a Premier League game at Aston Villa before spending two seasons on loan at Vitesse in the Eredivisie.
Miazga featured for the USA at the Gold Cup this summer alongside Christian Pulisic as the USA finished runners-up to Mexico.
While Pulisic joined the team at Japan for pre-season, Miazga returned to Cobham where he’s joined the U23/loan group in their preseason preparations.
With the likes of Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen who are in Miazga’s age bracket but well ahead of him in the pecking order, the USA international’s future at Chelsea looks very slim.
Miazga still has three more years left in his Chelsea contract.
